ESS Graduating Class

Episcopal Social Services (ESS), founded in 1831 as the Protestant Episcopal City Mission Society, has a long history of non-sectarian service in New York. Although the specific needs of the disadvantaged have changed over the years, ESS today focuses on strengthening children, families, and adults through programs in foster care and adoption, early childhood education, after school programs, group homes for developmentally disabled adults and community re-integration of the formerly incarcerated.

Based on LTG's discussion with ESS's Executive Director, Robert Gutheil, about his staff's needs for training, improving outcomes in enhanced supervisory professionalism and further improving the collaborative climate of ESS, LTG was asked to improve and enhance the skills of the new senior management to expand their level of excellence in a number of management areas.

Using LTG's holistic approach to management and leadership development, LTG expanded its Signature Management Training to include three customized modules on budgets and developing the skills and vision necessary to use budgeting as a tool for effective management.

Executive Director Robert Gutheil was thrilled with the outcomes of these trainings and his staff's engagement with the learning process. His management team walked away better equipped to face ongoing fiscal challenges and able to transform these challenges into opportunities for growth and leadership.
